Did you know that sometimes I check my own blog hoping for more comments even though I didn't write anything new? It's that desire to get something for nothing -- clever conversation right here on my blog without me having to come up with something to start it all out. I'm not sure what I'm hoping you will say because I'm pretty sure I'm not wanting you all to tell me I should get with it and write something! Who knows though -- maybe I write better under pressure?
Maybe I cook better under pressure too and that's why it's almost 4:30 and I still haven't started dinner or figured out for 100 percent certain what we are having. I'm only feeding the boys tonight (no I'm not starving the girls they are just away hiking) so it should be easy. I think I'll try out an easy recipe from my new "allergy friendly" cookbook. A whole pile of recipes that Dan can eat and we can too and they are supposed to taste good! Thanks to Di for the heads up on that one -- and to Mom C. who told me about it too.
Finally, in a stroke of oddness -- Jake sounds excited about school and he says he likes his teacher (who he met today) -- though him liking his teacher isn't the odd part. He was really curious about what color her hair would be. It's brown. I hope he's excited for school in the morning when he will want to be sleeping.
Kayli had her first school day today and I felt bad to discover that she didn't know she needed to take pencils and pens and paper and therefore some teachers were grumpy with her. I forget that what I thought should be obvious isn't to someone who has had those things provided for them at school their whole school career. I felt like a bad mom and still found it secretly amusing (just a little Kayli!) that she hadn't taken any.
Tomorrow Kayli gets to stay home and so my first real official day with just Dan and me at home will be Thursday. I'm planning on being really fun that day and I'm also really hoping that Dan takes a good nap at which point I will try to determine whether I can read a book guilt free or whether I need to spend the time frantically cleaning my bathroom or something. Ugg. Any guesses which will win?
Ah, well, I wrote something so now you can make many witty and clever comments and I'll be so happy to see them when I visit my blog.

Sher - knowing that you are more obligation driven than I am I'm guessing that you will have a sparkly bathroom on Thursday!
I would comment more, but I think I'll save it for tomorrow so you can come back and read some more
(we all do that -- I hope!)
Hi! I'm glad you wrote something so I could comment. (Yes, I was waiting for a new blog to do it.) I vote for reading a good book. You can clean a bathroon with a toddler hugging your legs can't you? Have a great day Thursday no matter what you do!
so, is Jake still lovin' the teacher? Did he wake with a smile on his face ready to go hang out with the brunette of his dreams? Hey, you know, sometimes whatever gets them to like school is worth it - and first grade crushes are much better than 7th grade crushes.
Jake got up just like he said (hooray!) but I was glad I went and met the bus because Jake had convinced Connor that he knew where his class was but when I went to follow him to his class he turned the wrong direction and then he would have gone in the wrong classroom (next door to his own)even with his teacher standing right there. I stopped by Connor's class to tell him that he had to walk Jake to class for a while.
I can't decide if one kid at home would be easier or harder.
I'm sure you'll be very productive Sher, and even if not, you won't feel guilty. That's what older kids are for- to clean the house! You just discipline and read/relax.
My kids are the opposite of Kayli. They wanted to pack their backpacks with pencils and notebooks and were a little sad when I said they didn't technically need to take anything.
Hope you enjoy your Dan time!
Hi Sheri! So fun to catch up on your family happenings. We've been so busy the last couple of weeks that I haven't even had time to update my own blog. Good luck with the beginning of school. I'm getting to do all of the school shopping for stuff that we didn't know about before the year started. yippee.
It's Thursday and I bet you had fun with Jake!
The story about Kayli is funny--that would have been me too. At least it wasn't..."What assignment? You mean I was supposed to do that spelling list and bring it back?"
Nice photo of grandma entertaining with the puppets. What a fun birthday present.
I think you must have had a long day lc since it is Wednesday and I didn't see Jake for most of the day -- Dan and I did fine today with Kayli home sick but Dan was not good last night and got up 4 times and so I was a bit on the tired side.
and today - I will comment on poor Kayli... if she is still not feeling well you can crack her up with an Aunt Tonya story: You see, forgetting paper and pencils is annoying - but when I was in 8th grade I went into my 4th period class on the second day of school, didn't really remember all those people being in there and only 15 minutes into class did I realize that's because it was only 3rd period! Every part of me wanted to just melt into the wall but I had to stand up, announce my idiocy and then go and find my proper 3rd period class... only to have to come back 30 minutes later to face that teacher again!
can today's comment be about cooking under pressure? Today I am feeling under pressure to cook and yet really I just want to order a pizza for the kids and nuke a lean cuisine for myself...lazy? oh you bet!
I'm afraid I went for the pizza option myself and didn't eat anything more healthy myself on Friday. Every now and then you just have to not cook right?
I ended up making some pasta and topping it with sliced up chicken patties, red sauce, and mozz. cheese... it looked slightly fancy with a little green salad on the side of the plate (my plate at least) and didn't taste too bad for a 20 minute prep. Now the problem is: what to eat tonight, and tomorrow, and... why can't I be rich and hire a dietician/housekeeper?
Better late than never getting into the comments game. You guys sure start school early! Do you get out in May also? Yesterday was our first day. Served pizza for dinner (of course) and am only now after two weeks getting back on the computer. And yes, I think one kid might be a little harder. Yesterday was a little rough.
Yes happy mom, we do get out in May and start spending all of our time at the ball park instead.
