| God has created great beauty for us to enjoy! |
I am a recovering perfectionist and I have learned something lately. When I am not panicked about being perfect, or focused on never making mistakes, and when instead I am focused on God's love, shown to me through the atonement of Jesus Christ, I can hear Him much better. I am calm. In the calm, inspiration comes. I hear Him.
One of the things I heard was about my propensity for planning -- everything. I love planning, and that is not always a bad thing, but it can be. As I thought, "I am going to sit down and figure out how to get everything done in my days that I want to". I had this quiet thought, "How about you just start doing the first thing that you feel you need to do." That gave me the realization that sometimes planning, for me, is a kind of stalling technique. I'll do what I need too after I have figured out how to get everything done.
My recent experiences have helped me to see clearly a peril of perfectionism that I hadn't focused on before. Spending more time focusing on God's love for me, and on Jesus' Atonement, instead of desperately trying to do everything right, or make everyone happy, helps me to lead a happier, more inspired life.
