Sunday -- Walking in The Wind

Sunday we went off to church.  Aloha!  Everyone says that when they speak before they say anything else.  The congregation gave an Aloha back every time with varying levels of enthusiasm.  A lot of our Alohas sounded more mumbled than sincere.

Sunday school was in the gym and the teachers had a microphone, and a man was assigned to walk a microphone around to whoever wanted to comment.  It's amazing how the presence of a microphone can clam everyone up!!!

Friday and Saturday nights there were big rain storms that made it sound like someone had moved our room right next to a waterfall.  I think Sundays wind was probably the rest of the storm -- but it was sunny, and warm enough for Derek!

Kauai has a walking / biking trail that goes on for a long way.  We walked on it a couple of days.  Walking seemed like a good Sunday activity and so we walked in the wind to a beach we had seen on a previous walk.  It seemed to have multiple names.  Donkey Beach and Secret Beach are the two I remember, but there might have been one more.

I think there were maybe five people at the beach besides us.
We just watched the big waves and looked for shells.  We hadn't seen shells on
many of the beaches we went to -- just lots of old coral and driftwood.

Derek on the beach.  The sand on Kauai was a lot of work to walk through.  It was a little more coarse than other beaches and we would sink right in -- even at the waters edge where sand is usually harder.
One day we found a beach that was the color of dirt -- but it was dark brown sand that otherwise was a lot
like the rest of the sand we walked through.

This was an incredibly beautiful beach.

This is Derek watching a crab hole to see if the bigger than average sand colored crab would come out with him so close if he stood still.  It poked its eye out, but wouldn't come out with Derek close.
There were a lot of sand colored crabs.

I was finally warm enough to take off my jacket on the way back!

A Pandanus tree.  (I had to look that up).  It has fruit that look a bit like pineapple.  I was trying to get a picture with the fruit in it, but I don't see it.

Naturally our other Sunday activity was driving around.  We had driven by this mountain multiple times.  It was easily recognizable by its interesting shape!
That was Sunday!  Our trip was winding down.  One day left.
